LiveStrong?
As virtually everyone (USA-side) is aware of, the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) selling the yellow “Live Strong” wristbands. What many may not be aware of, is the fact that many unscrupulous* companies have come to the forefront, selling knock-off bracelets in colors other than yellow (the only official color is yellow). Also, one or two companies have begun selling similar-colored yellow bracelets with the Live Strong logo on them.
What many people may not realize is that the LAF sells the bracelets only in bulks of 10, 100, or 1200 from their website. Many people have started buying bulks of 1,200 and reselling the bracelets on eBay. It’s rare to find a single bracelet for under $3.00 (plus shipping), and most are more than that. It’s even rarer to find an eBay seller promising to donate a portion of their proceeds back to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Today, I was browsing eBay and came across an auction selling “offical Live Strong bracelets.” I sent a question to the seller, asking if she could show any proof that the bracelets she is selling are official, AND how much did she actually plan to donate to the LAF.
She responded back almost immediately assuring me that she is more than willing to provide documentation proving their validity as official bracelets, obtained from the Lance Armstrong Foundation. She has also stated that she cannot quote me a specific amount, yet, as the final donation amount will be based on ultimate proceeds. This – of course – makes me a bit suspicious as to the amount she will actually donate; HOWEVER, she is at least selling the official bracelets, so the LAF has gotten their initial donation by way of bracelet purchase.
Thusly, if you’re looking for a single, official Lance Armstrong Foundation “Live Strong” bracelet, go visit this auction at eBay.com. (No, I’m making no money advertising this.)
